Continuing on valvetrain work from episode 9 and episode 10, Lake Speed Jr sits down with Mark Cronquist, Scooter Brothers, Billy Godbold and Ben Strader to discuss the changes in valvetrain technology over the past two decades, and how, in Scooter’s words, “all kinds of bad ideas led us to tool steel.”
The guys discuss the trials and error processes they went through, and how advanced diagnostic tools like the Spintron finally gave them the ability to really see what was happening inside the engine versus what they thought was happening.
Along the way, the guys tell some great stories and share some secrets they learned so that other engine builders and racers can be sure that the “best cam for their engine is the one they’ll put in tomorrow.”
