Are double-digit horsepower gains possible from honing alone? The answer is yes!
Episode 2 of Expo 2024 is a segment on the Hands-on Honing Classes that will be available to engine builders in 2024.
Provided as a collaboration between Rottler Manufacturing, and Total Seal Piston Rings, these classes will walk you through all the “hows” and “whys” of honing, as well as the technology available to machinists and engine builders.
Each class is a one-day course that begins in the classroom with the science behind surface finishes and ring seal. Then it moves out to the shop floor where students will go hands-on with a hone and the tools discussed in the classroom to see for themselves how it’s all done.
There will be four opportunities in 2024 for those interested in attending the class:
- March 16, 2024 – EFI University, Lake Havasu, Arizona (Class registration link)

- TBD – Rottler Manufacturing, Kent, WA
- TBD – UNOH, Lima, OH
The two remaining classes will be held this fall at Rottler Manufacturing in Kent, WA and the University of Northern Ohio in Lima, OH. Dates have yet to be scheduled, so check back for updates.
