Our third episode from day 2 of Expo 2024 kicks off a series of segments on R07 engines.

The segment begins at Automotive Specialists Racing Engines in Concord, NC where Keith and Jeff Dorton are joined by Mahle’s Dan Begle, Rottler’s Ed Keibler, and CWT IndustriesRandy Neal to talk about why getting the bore geometry (straight *and* round!) is so important and often very difficult.

After discussing what they consider to be the best data points to measure for proper geometry (and Keith sharing a few stories on how he used to figure it out), the guys jump back in studio for a roundtable discussion.

There they talk about the tools and measurements they find critical to get the perfect bore geometry that not only squeezes extra horsepower out of the engine, but ensures that it’ll make more than one run while doing it.

(Segment originally aired live on January 12, 2024)

I love this because when I was learning the trade at 20 years old in 1970 I worked at an engine shop who had a ground tube hard chromed the size of SBC small mains or 265’s. We used it for every thing and had collets made to fit every engine built in the 60’s so we could deck the block always using the same bar.
I was taught by an old guy that blocks move all around . Yup and I would assemble engines on a steel topped work bench not hanging in a stand for that reason.
Later we started check cam bores finding the same issues they were way off.
When we had a good block we held on it it as long as possible.
More than once simple reblock engine made less power.
Those old 283 blocks we used for F/MP were good ones.
Love this video sorry I would have been there but moved back to IL as I was only 1 hour away from you guys.

    Michael
