This episode is part of the careers in performance engine building track.
The Expo’s Lake Speed Jr heads down to Houston, Texas to see Jud Massengil at the School of Automotive Machinists & Technology (SAM Tech).
There the two talk about how graduates from the school learn to build high performance engines and race cars — beginning with theory, moving through to learning CNC machining and engine building, and all the way to ultimately building an NHRA competition car.
Lake also gets a tour of the facilities and learns why they say “if you can put chips on the ground, you’ll have a job for the rest of your life.”
Following the tour, Lake heads back in studio to talk with AERA’s own professor, Chuck Lynch, and take live Q&A from the audience about the many career opportunities the industry offers for both the new and old.
