Episode 4 featured the first interview of Expo 2024 – Brian Tooley of Brian Tooley Racing.
In the segment, Expo hosts Joe Castello and Lake Speed Jr talk to Brian about how started in the early 1990s as a novice in performance engines, porting heads at his own business, Total Engine Airflow, which he built into one of the most successful CNC head porting shops in the United States before selling it to Summit Racing.
Tooley discusses his focus shift from heads to camshafts after the Summit sale, and his founding of Brian Tooley Racing in his basement, which is where he ran the business until two years ago (BTR now operates out of a 45,000 square foot facility).
Along the way, Tooley reveals some of his secrets to success, including the need to work hard and the willingness to figure things out, or as he put it: “If one man can do it, then you probably can too.” He also emphasizes a philosophy of constant improvement, a willingness to embrace technology, and hiring people who want to use it as a key advantage his business has over its competitors.
This segment was recorded in conjunction with the Hidden Horsepower podcast.
